Senate Approves Bill to Disclose Epstein Documents

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to a bill that will force the release of official records related to the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a almost unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a change of position by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. Trump's team gave in after an extended period of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a scandal that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Unanimous Approval in Congress

Senators proceeded by consensus, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Earlier that day, the House voted decisively for the bill on a 427-1 tally.

“The American people have endured sufficient delay. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have suffered long enough,” Chuck Schumer stated in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before requesting the chamber to pass it unanimously. “Let the truth come out. Allow openness to prevail.”

Presidential Signature

The measure next goes to the president for his approval. He indicated on Monday that he would approve the bill.

Though Trump has for an extended period rejected the controversy over the official management of the Epstein case as a “political stunt”, he expressed his backing for the legislation over the past few days, and stated he would approve it if it reaches his desk.

Reaction

The Democratic party, along with those affected and their representatives who were seated in a viewing area, applauded after the bill was enacted. The only opposition came from a Louisiana Republican, who said he worried the measure would disclose specific data of individuals involved, those under scrutiny and others implicated in the investigation.
