Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the group access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.
